The business
Shawarma Stop is a halal shawarma and charcoal kebab counter with two stores in Illinois, one in Elgin and one in Lake in the Hills. Plates, wraps, kebabs and family platters. One phone number covers both stores: press 1 for Elgin, 2 for Lake in the Hills. The Lake in the Hills store was just opening when we built the site.
What was in the way
Both stores run on Clover, and Clover already had the full menu with prices. But the only way to order online was through Clover’s own storefront pages. The owner wanted the menu on his own website, with the orders still landing in Clover.
His old domain had lapsed, so the site now lives on shawarmastopusa.com, which matches the restaurant’s Instagram and TikTok handle.
One more problem was ours. The two stores don’t sell exactly the same menu, and our first draft used a single hand-typed list for both. That was wrong for both stores.
What we built
The menu now comes from Clover. The site ships with a saved copy, then checks Clover and refreshes it, with a 30-minute cache. If Clover can’t be reached, the saved copy keeps showing. On launch day that came to 106 menu lines across eight tabs, and a line sold at only one store is labeled with that store’s name.
Clover stays in charge of prices and what’s available. A small file on our side holds the display details: corrected item names, categories, descriptions and photos. When the owner changes a price in Clover, the website follows on its own.
Every menu line has an Order button that opens that exact item in Clover. A picker at the top sets which store you’re ordering from and remembers it next time. All the Clover links open in the same browser tab, so a customer can add a plate, come back, add a wrap, and check out once on Clover. We tested all 193 item links, and none failed.
We also did some work inside Clover: seven Elgin item names had spelling mistakes, and we fixed them. We picked the red in Clover’s palette closest to the site’s, and the owner published it on the Elgin storefront.
The site is dark, with a clip from the restaurant’s own TikTok at the top. On September 21 we added a page for each location with its own title and restaurant details for search engines.
Where it stands
The site has been live on shawarmastopusa.com since September 2, 2026.
